Sometimes you have to start at the bottom. A lot of the time you have to start at the bottom. This week we had a guest speaker in one of my classes come talk to us about hospitality and hotel management. He has moved up the chain rather quickly for most people in that profession. But he stressed to us that it doesn't always work like that. It rarely ever works like that.
He told us that most of the time you will have to start at the bottom. You will have to do that grungy work that nobody wants to do. But that grungy work can give you the best experience. Employers see that you have the patience and ability to work through that not so exciting work and it can and will help you.
I really like what you said. I have always told myself something very similar. Everyone has to start somewhere, and most the time that is at the bottom. Professional athletes don't start as pros and neither do executives of large companies. We must start where we are and work up from there.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good post. It's really important to understand the value of all types of work. Working hard will always get you to better places. Having a good attitude about that work will get you to even better places.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great point. We've all been in positions like that where we do the work no one else wants to. But in the end, I think most of us would agree that as we look back upon those times it was what helped us grow the most.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a very important idea to understand. We are all so used to instant gratification that we are not able to remember that many of the most worth while things in life are achieved through hard work, diligence and dedication.
