The main example that really showed this to me from the chapter was talking about a cashier at the grocery store. The have two options when a customer comes up: they can either just rush through the groceries without talking or they can make it more enjoyable by talking, scanning the groceries a fancy way, or just trying to be happy.
There are times not just at work but everyday when we don't feel like doing something. We don't want to talk to others, or do anything. But that is the job of life. That is when the acting comes into place. You aren't trying to cover up how miserable you are, you are just trying to make things more enjoyable and comfortable for others around you.
Interesting thoughts Amber! Ha, yeah i feel that life can be all about trying to make others happy. If thats what you are saying. I hope that as i am working and can be the kind of person to help others and make their day seem a little less stressful...
ReplyDeleteThat's very true. I've definitely been someone who hasn't wanted to do anything. Who hasn't?! Just this week I felt that way going to work on a particular day. But once I was there, the process of "acting" actually changed my mood. By being more cheerful and trying to take more joy in my work, I actually DID take more joy in it. It made me realize that sulking and not trying to improve your mood can just make you feel worse.
ReplyDeleteGreat insight!!
